Childhood Leftovers

Oil on 24” x 36” & 8” stretched canvases

This body of work analyzes behaviours and memories surrounding the food of my childhood. Focused around a life-size painting of my family’s fridge, each piece of produce and Tupperware represents something dear to my upbringing.

Accompanying the fridge are six smaller paintings that take a closer look at specific foods, all of which are present in the larger painting. From my adolescent hate against bok choy to my dad’s culinary skills, I explore these memories and how they shape me to this day.


The Process

For this project, I wanted to dive into the process of food styling and document my own references. None of the food went to waste and I basked in nostalgia with a few days of leftovers. Below you will find the photos I took for the 6 square paintings:
